Something very exciting is happening in India! OpenAI, the company that made ChatGPT, has just shared some amazing news. Starting November 4, 2025, people in India who sign up for ChatGPT Go — the budget plan that normally costs ₹399 a month — will get it completely free for one whole year!

Isn’t that cool? Let’s understand what all this means and why OpenAI is doing it.

What Is ChatGPT Go?

You probably know ChatGPT it’s an artificial intelligence (AI) that can talk with people, write stories, answer questions, help with studies, make poems, and much more.

But OpenAI also has different plans for ChatGPT. Some people use the free version, and others pay for special plans like ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Pro, which give more features and faster replies.

In August 2025, OpenAI made a new plan called ChatGPT Go. This plan was made especially for people who wanted a cheaper option — something affordable but still powerful. It costs only ₹399 a month in India (that’s less than many phone plans!).

Now, OpenAI is saying: “Hey India, we’re giving ChatGPT Go to you for free for a year!” Yes, free for 12 months!

Why Is OpenAI Giving It for Free?

This big gift is happening because of a special event called DevDay Exchange, which OpenAI is hosting in Bengaluru on November 4.

Before this event, OpenAI’s Vice President and head of ChatGPT, Nick Turley, made a statement. He said:

“Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI.”

That means OpenAI wants more people — especially students, teachers, small business owners, and young creators — to use and learn from ChatGPT. The company believes India has huge potential in technology and wants to help everyone here explore AI easily.

OpenAI Is Growing in India

This free ChatGPT Go offer is also part of OpenAI’s bigger plan to grow in India. The company has been slowly building its team and presence here.

Recently, it opened its first office in Delhi, which is very exciting. They also hired a second employee in India, someone with a lot of experience in the education field, to lead their education projects.

OpenAI says it wants to work more closely with schools, universities, and learning platforms to make AI a helpful tool for students and teachers.

They have also started putting up billboards and online ads about ChatGPT across India — maybe you’ve seen some already!

🇮🇳 “India-First” Commitment

In its announcement, OpenAI said this free offer is part of its “India-first” commitment. That means they are putting India at the top of their priority list.

They want to support India’s own IndiaAI Mission, a government effort to make India a global leader in artificial intelligence.

The company believes that AI can help India grow faster, especially in education, health, and business. And with more people able to use ChatGPT Go for free, OpenAI hopes many Indians will start using AI tools to learn, create, and solve problems.

What Will Happen to Current Go Users?

You might be wondering — what about people who already paid for ChatGPT Go? Don’t worry!

OpenAI said that existing ChatGPT Go subscribers will also get 12 months free. The company will share more details later on how they can redeem this offer.

So, whether you’re a new user or an old one, you’ll still get one year of ChatGPT Go for free. Everyone wins

What Makes ChatGPT Go Special?

Now, let’s talk about what ChatGPT Go can actually do.

ChatGPT Go doesn’t have all the features that the more expensive Plus (₹1,999/month) or Pro (₹19,990/month) plans have.

But it’s still very powerful. Here’s what you get with ChatGPT Go:

  • Higher messaging limits – You can chat much more than on the free plan.
  • Faster performance – It replies more quickly and handles more requests at once.
  • Access to GPT-5 – Yes, that’s OpenAI’s latest and smartest model!
  • Some deep research tools – You can use it for light research and analysis (though not as much as Pro users).

So even though it’s cheaper, ChatGPT Go is still packed with useful features. And now, with it being free for a year, even more people will get to try it out.

ChatGPT’s Growth in India

OpenAI shared something else interesting — they said that in just one month after launching ChatGPT Go, the number of paid ChatGPT subscribers in India more than doubled!

That means lots of people in India want to use ChatGPT and are willing to pay for it. Because of this strong interest, OpenAI has now made ChatGPT Go available in almost 90 countries around the world!

But India seems to be one of their most important markets, which is why they are focusing here first.

Future Plans: Data Centers in India

There’s another big plan in the works. OpenAI is reportedly planning to set up a data center in India that could have a power capacity of at least 1 gigawatt!

That’s huge. It would mean faster and safer AI services for Indian users, and it would also create new jobs in tech and infrastructure.
